The US Public Policy Advisory Group is an informal voluntary group which provides advice to the FIA Foundation on road safety, sustainable transport issues and general US public policy as it pertains to the international agenda. It also aims to encourage advocacy to promote international road safety as a priority within the US, and it provides guidance on the FIA Foundation's relations with relevant US government agencies, Congress, and transport, environmental and public health stakeholders in the US. Former members of the Advisory Group have all had distinguished careers in fields of US transportation policy.

Richard Pain

Former Advisor

Richard F. Pain is the former Transportation Safety Coordinator for the Transportation Research Board, a division of The National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine.

He was staff to 19 standing committees and a similar number of active subcommittees focusing on all aspects of highway and other mode safety, human performance, and cycles and pedestrians. He also was staff to committees on visualization, developing countries, statistics, and emergency evacuation.  Before coming to TRB in 1988, Rick spent 20 years conducting contract safety and human performance research with several consulting firms. Since retiring Rick has done several consulting assignments.
