In Brazil, NGOs rally to #SaveKidsLives and plan future campaigns
Civil society campaigners have joined with ministers at a Brasilia rally hosted by the FIA Foundation and the Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety.
Held in advance of the 2nd Global High Level Conference on Road Safety, the rally celebrated the achievement of one million signatures for the #SaveKidsLives Child Declaration and discussed future collaborations. A panel session with ministers and senior government officials from Thailand, Senegal and Morocco and NGO campaigners discussed the role of civil society in both providing pressure and working together to deliver improved road safety. Chaired by NGO Alliance President Jeffrey Witte, the rally heard from speakers including UN Special Envoy Jean Todt; WHO Injury Prevention Director Etienne Krug; Director of the Brazilian Federal Traffic police, Maria Alice Nascimento Souza; and Lord Robertson of Port Ellen. The rally was closed with rousing speeches from global road safety ambassadors Zoleka Mandela and Michelle Yeoh.
