On Tuesday 20th September 2016, the FIA Foundation held a lunch discussion at the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) working group meeting in Paris.

The event invited participants to discuss the areas that the FIA Foundation could contribute to CCAC in supporting work on emissions from Light Duty Vehicles. The discussion was informed by a summary of a paper by Clean Air Asia (Reducing Pollution Emissions) which set out 5 key areas to tackle ‘black carbon’ – fine particulate matter from incomplete combustion of fuel which is a major cause of health and climate issues.

Around 20 people joined the discussion, representing a wide mix of countries across Asia, Latin America and Africa. Issues that were raised included the importance of tackling the growing issue of pollution from poor quality motorbikes in developing countries, as well as addressing second-hand vehicles and particulate matter caused by new direct-injection technologies in vehicles.
